UTILITY HISTORYAddison water: bought from Dallas, a system dating to 1881
The Handbook of Texas notes that by 1991 Addison was already receiving its water from the City of Dallas, and the town still buys all of it there. Dallas Water Utilities traces its start to 1881, when the city took over a private system that had served downtown from Browder Springs since 1876. Dallas moved to Trinity River water in 1886 and has since built a regional network of reservoirs. Today it treats the water at one of three plants, drawing on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and lakes Ray Roberts, Lewisville, Grapevine, Ray Hubbard, Tawakoni and Fork, before it reaches Addison's mains.
