UTILITY HISTORY

Blue Mound water: a town that took over its wells

In 2013 Blue Mound did not run its own water system; its water came from a private company, Monarch Utilities, and town leaders, citing rates well above their neighbors', backed House Bill 1160 to make it easier to take over the system; Governor Rick Perry vetoed it that June. By 2021 the City of Blue Mound was operating the system itself: three wells at two sites, on Bell Avenue and Fagan Drive, with ground storage and an elevated tank. The wells draw on the Paluxy and Twin Mountain aquifers, part of the Trinity Aquifer, and the water is disinfected with chlorine.
