UTILITY HISTORY

Coppell water: a 1974 utility district, Dallas water today

In 1974, the same year the regional airport opened, a municipal utility district was established in Coppell, according to the Handbook of Texas. Today the City of Coppell buys its water from Dallas Water Utilities. The water comes from Lake Tawakoni, Lake Ray Hubbard, Lake Fork and the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, and the Elm Fork is fed by Ray Roberts, Lewisville and Grapevine lakes upstream. Grapevine Lake, on Denton Creek, began impounding water on July 3, 1952.
