UTILITY HISTORYDeSoto water: growth, a new system and Dallas supply
Rapid growth in the 1960s, to 6,617 residents by 1970, brought improvements to DeSoto's public works, including a new water and sewerage system. Today the city buys its drinking water from Dallas, whose water department dates to 1881. Dallas takes water from seven sources: lakes Ray Roberts, Lewisville, Grapevine, Ray Hubbard, Tawakoni and Fork, and the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. The newest of the Dallas-owned lakes, Ray Hubbard, was built for the city between 1964 and 1969. DeSoto's report notes that Dallas water is tested daily, weekly and monthly.
