UTILITY HISTORYLake Worth water: city wells beside a Fort Worth lake
The city is named for a lake that is Fort Worth's, not its own. Fort Worth began building Lake Worth Dam on the West Fork of the Trinity in 1912 and finished it in October 1914, for municipal water and recreation. The City of Lake Worth's 2025 report describes its system as purchased surface water from Fort Worth and lists two city groundwater well sites, at Azle Avenue and Highway 820 and at the Stadium Wall and Boat Club pump station. Fort Worth also lists Lake Worth among its drinking water wholesale customers.
