UTILITY HISTORY

Lancaster water: seven Dallas sources

The City of Lancaster buys its water from Dallas Water Utilities, which treats surface water from the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and lakes Ray Roberts, Lewisville, Grapevine, Ray Hubbard, Tawakoni and Fork. Two of those lakes lie east in the Sabine River basin: Lake Tawakoni, behind Iron Bridge Dam, completed in December 1960, and Lake Fork Reservoir, whose dam was closed in February 1980 and which reached its conservation level in December 1985. Dallas is one of the cities that contracted to buy Lake Fork water.
