UTILITY HISTORYBear Creek SUD: Lavon's water corporation, renamed
Bear Creek Special Utility District started out in 1965 as the Lavon Water Supply Corporation, and it has held a contract to buy water from the North Texas Municipal Water District since that start. It converted to the Lavon Special Utility District in 2013. In 2016 state regulators approved the Bear Creek name, picked because the district by then served communities beyond the City of Lavon. It had about 2,384 customers in 2019. It has always bought its water already treated: the supply comes from the district's Wylie plant, which draws on Lavon Lake. The NTMWD dates to 1951, and its first treatment plant began running in 1956.
