UTILITY HISTORYLittle Elm water: a lake town that buys from NTMWD
Little Elm sits on Lewisville Lake, but its 2025 water report says the town purchases its water from the North Texas Municipal Water District, based in Wylie. That water is drawn from four lakes: Lavon Lake in Collin County, Bois d'Arc Lake near Bonham, Lake Texoma on the Oklahoma line and Jim Chapman Lake in Delta and Hopkins counties. The district was created in 1951 and opened its first treatment plant in 1956. Its newest reservoir, Bois d'Arc Lake, was finished in 2022, and the Leonard Water Treatment Plant began treating that lake's water in 2023. NTMWD lists Little Elm as a customer, not a member city.
