UTILITY HISTORYLucas water: purchased from the Lavon Lake system
Lucas buys its water rather than drawing from a source of its own. The city's 2025 report calls its supply purchased surface water from the North Texas Municipal Water District, taken from Lavon Lake in Collin County, and the district lists Lucas among its customer cities. The lake predates much of the district's growth: a local group, the Tri-County Lavon Reservoir Association, first met in 1946, construction began in 1948, and the dam was raised in 1975 to hold more water. Lucas estimated that 14,630,000 gallons were unaccounted for in 2025, lost to leaks, hydrant flushing, maintenance and fire response.
