UTILITY HISTORY

Midlothian water: from town wells to two lakes

Midlothian's 2025 water report still lists four city wells, three of them plugged or abandoned, but the city now classifies its system as surface water. Its own intake takes water from Joe Pool Lake, whose dam was completed in December 1985; the lake began filling in January 1986, was full by June 1989, and is operated by the Trinity River Authority. Midlothian also receives raw water from the Tarrant Regional Water District out of Richland-Chambers Reservoir, which the district finished in 1987. The city in turn sells treated water to Rockett Special Utility District, which serves surrounding parts of Ellis County.
