UTILITY HISTORY

Murphy water: Lavon Lake water treated at Wylie

Murphy is one of 61 North Texas communities that receive drinking water from the North Texas Municipal Water District, according to the city's 2025 water report. Murphy's water comes mainly from Lavon Lake, the district's main raw water source, where the district holds water rights; the lake also serves as a terminal reservoir for water brought in from other sources. Treatment happens at the district's plants in Wylie. Congress authorized Lavon Lake in 1945, and the district's first treatment plant began operating in 1956. The district lists Murphy as a customer city rather than a member.
