UTILITY HISTORY

Princeton water: an original NTMWD member

By the mid-1920s Princeton already supplied water, electricity, natural gas and paved roads to its 500 residents. In 1951 it was one of ten cities that became the original members of the North Texas Municipal Water District, created that year as a special district of the state. Lake Lavon, about five miles from town, was completed in 1953, and the district's first treated-water plant began operating in 1956. Today Princeton's water comes from several surface sources delivered by the district, with most of it drawn from Lake Lavon.
