UTILITY HISTORY

Town of Prosper: from town water to regional lakes

About twenty years after its founding, Prosper already provided water, electricity, natural gas and paved roads to roughly 400 residents. Today all of the town's drinking water is purchased from the North Texas Municipal Water District and treated at the district's Wylie and Leonard plants. The district relies on surface water from Lavon Lake in Collin County, Lake Texoma in Grayson County, Bois d'Arc Lake in Fannin County and Jim Chapman Lake. The district was created in 1951, and its Leonard plant began treating Bois d'Arc Lake water in 2023.
