UTILITY HISTORYRichardson water: from an artesian well to Lavon Lake
After incorporating in 1925, Richardson built a public waterworks with a deep artesian well, a water tower and sanitary sewers. The city later turned to regional lake water. The North Texas Municipal Water District, created in 1951 with ten original member cities, added Richardson as its 11th member city in 1973. Richardson buys treated water wholesale from the district, which holds surface water rights in Lake Lavon, Lake Chapman, Lake Texoma and Lake Tawakoni, according to the city's 2022 summary of its annual water quality report.
