UTILITY HISTORYCity of Rowlett: a lakeside city on Lavon water
Rowlett sits on the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, but that lake is one of the City of Dallas's supply sources. Rowlett's tap water instead comes from the North Texas Municipal Water District, which treats it at its plant in Wylie and sends it to the city. The district's primary source is Lavon Lake. The district was created in 1951; Congress had authorized Lavon Lake in 1945, and the district's first treated-water plant began operating in 1956.
