UTILITY HISTORY

Wylie Northeast SUD: a 1966 rural water system

St. Paul's water system is older than the town. Wylie Northeast Water Supply Corporation filed its articles of incorporation in 1966, and by the 1970s it had built its first water tower, which still stands in St. Paul and originally served northeast Wylie and St. Paul. A ground storage tank and a second tower followed in 2005 and 2007 on the district's office property, and the corporation later became Wylie Northeast Special Utility District. It buys its water from the North Texas Municipal Water District's Wylie treatment plant, which draws on Lake Lavon. The Corps of Engineers began building Lavon in 1948 and started impounding water in 1953.
