UTILITY HISTORY

Cash SUD: a 1963 rural water corporation

Cash Special Utility District began in 1963 as Cash Water Supply Corporation, a nonprofit, member-owned system formed under the Farmers Home Administration's rural water program. Its first system, finished in 1964, served about 200 customers around Cash and bought treated water from Greenville. In 1970 it built its own treatment plant on Lake Tawakoni, and in 1979 it signed a wholesale agreement with the North Texas Municipal Water District. The corporation became a special utility district in 2003. According to its 2025 report, the Union Valley and Quinlan areas south of Interstate 30 are served with treated water bought from the district, which draws from Lake Lavon.
