UTILITY HISTORY

Waxahachie water: two local lakes and an East Texas line

Waxahachie's modern supply began with Lake Waxahachie. Construction started on April 18, 1956, impoundment began that November, and the lake is owned by Ellis County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 to supply the city. The Corps of Engineers then built Bardwell Lake, starting in August 1963 and impounding water from November 20, 1965, for water supply, flood control and recreation. The city's 2025 report lists intakes on Lake Waxahachie plus raw water from the Tarrant Regional Water District, and names its sources as Lake Waxahachie and Bardwell Lake in Ellis County, Cedar Creek Reservoir and Richland-Chambers Reservoir.
