UTILITY HISTORY

City of Anna water: deep wells plus a Texoma partnership

Anna runs a two-part supply. About 45 percent of its water comes from seven deep wells the city owns and operates. The other 55 percent is treated surface water bought from the Greater Texoma Utility Authority under a joint agreement with the North Texas Municipal Water District. The Texas Legislature authorized the Texoma authority in 1979, and Denison and Sherman confirmed it by election that year; Anna later joined as a member city and appoints one of its board seats. The district's surface water comes from Lavon Lake, Lake Texoma, Lake Tawakoni and Jim Chapman Lake.
