UTILITY HISTORYBenbrook Water Authority: from home wells to the lake
Benbrook's early homes drew from their own wells. In 1949 the Worth Water Company won a twenty-five-year franchise to build a town water system, and in April 1955 the Legislature created the Benbrook Water and Sewer Authority, which took over that company's assets; a later bill dropped 'Sewer' from the name. Meanwhile the Army Corps of Engineers built Benbrook Dam from 1947 to 1950, and the lake began filling in 1952. Today the authority buys lake water from the Tarrant Regional Water District and treats it at its own plant, which supplies about 80 to 85 percent of demand; wells provide the rest.
