UTILITY HISTORY

Celina water: a 1915 waterworks, now Upper Trinity

Celina had a municipal water works by 1915, only eight years after it incorporated. Today the city buys treated water from the Upper Trinity Regional Water District, stores it in a ground tank and pumps it to elevated towers for delivery. Upper Trinity grew out of talks that began in 1986 among Denton County cities and utilities; the Legislature approved it and the governor signed the bill on June 6, 1989. The law named no member cities; instead it gave local governments a two-year sign-up period.

Celina contracts with Community Waste Disposal (CWD), which took over from Waste Connections on December 1, 2025. Each home has a blue recycling cart collected once a week; look up your day with CWD's View My Schedule tool.

  • Curbside: cart out by 7 a.m., upright with lid closed, three feet from the trash cart and from obstacles.
