UTILITY HISTORY

Farmersville water: a charter member of NTMWD

Farmersville was one of the ten original member cities of the North Texas Municipal Water District, created by the state in 1951; the others included Forney, Garland, McKinney, Plano and Wylie. The district was built around Lavon Lake, which the Corps of Engineers began in January 1948 and completed in early 1953, with the district holding rights to 100,000 acre-feet of its water. The district's first treatment plant opened in 1956. Farmersville still buys treated surface water from the district's Wylie plant, which its report says draws on Lavon Lake and Lake Texoma.
