UTILITY HISTORY

Hurst water: a city born partly to secure water

Water was one of the reasons Hurst became a city. When residents voted in 1951 to incorporate, the goals were to keep Fort Worth from annexing them and to help secure a water supply. Hurst's 2023 budget lists its supply as six city-owned water wells, two water supply connections with Fort Worth and three emergency connections. Fort Worth also lists Hurst among its drinking water wholesale customers. Fort Worth's raw water comes from the Tarrant Regional Water District, created in 1924.
