UTILITY HISTORY

Josephine water: treated at the Wylie plant on Lavon Lake

The City of Josephine runs its own distribution system and buys treated surface water from the North Texas Municipal Water District's Wylie water treatment plant. The district was created in 1951 as a special district of the state, and its first treated-water plant began operating in 1956. Lavon Lake, the district's original reservoir, sits about four miles west of Josephine on the East Fork of the Trinity River. Construction began in January 1948 and was completed in early 1953.
