UTILITY HISTORY

Melissa water: two NTMWD links and a city well

Melissa receives treated water from the North Texas Municipal Water District through two connections. One runs through the Greater Texoma Utility Authority, which buys district water and carries it to Melissa and to Anna, Van Alstyne and Howe; the other connects directly to the city's distribution system. The water comes from the district's Wylie and Leonard plants, drawn from Lavon Lake, Bois d'Arc Lake, Lake Texoma, Jim Chapman Lake, Lake Tawakoni and the East Fork reuse project. The Leonard plant opened in 2023 to treat water from Bois d'Arc Lake, which was finished in 2022. The city also pumps Woodbine Aquifer groundwater from its Country Ridge well.
