UTILITY HISTORYMustang SUD: from 50 rural taps to Savannah
Mustang Special Utility District began as Mustang Water Supply Corporation, incorporated on May 13, 1966, with 50 connections and five board members. As subdivisions spread along U.S. 380, Mustang became the contract operator for Savannah; a 2015 appraisal filed with the state utility commission noted that Denton County Fresh Water Supply District No. 10 owned the internal lines and bought water wholesale from the Upper Trinity Regional Water District. Today Mustang blends groundwater from the Trinity and Woodbine aquifers with surface water bought from Upper Trinity, drawn from Jim Chapman and Lewisville lakes.
