UTILITY HISTORYVan Alstyne water: deep wells plus Bois d'Arc Lake
Van Alstyne's main supply is groundwater. The city runs four production wells: two in the Woodbine aquifer and two in the deeper Trinity aquifer. The well water needs no filtration before it enters the system and is disinfected with chloramine. Its second source is surface water treated by the North Texas Municipal Water District at its Leonard plant, which treats water from Bois d'Arc Lake. The city buys that water through GTUA, which carries it from the connection point to Melissa, Anna, Van Alstyne and Howe. The mix is about two-thirds groundwater and one-third surface water.
