Combine.
No hardness figure on file for Combine yet.

Combine Water Supply Corporation buys Dallas-treated water through Seagoville; Dallas's 2023 memorandum gives a range for the Dallas system, but the corporation's report prints no hardness figure we could read.

COMMON SIGNS OF HARD WATER

What each grain per gallon looks like at home.

With no figure for Combine, the signs are the measure. Three or more of these, and the free water test will put a number on it.

01
Spots on glasses and dishes

Cloudy glassware and white spots the dishwasher cannot rinse off: the minerals that dry out of every gallon.

02
Scale on faucets and showerheads

The white crust is limescale. It narrows spray holes and seizes aerators and valves.

03
Soap that will not lather

Calcium and magnesium react with soap before it foams: more soap, and scum on tubs and shower doors.

04
Dry skin and hair

The same soap curd settles on skin and hair and does not rinse away.

05
Stiff laundry

Minerals bind to fabric and detergent. Towels come out stiff, whites go grey, colors fade sooner.

06
Water heater and appliance scale

Scale coats heating elements and clogs small valves, so appliances work harder and fail sooner.

COMBINE’S WATER, BY HARDNESS

Dallas water through Seagoville, the same at both of Combine's sample points

Combine Water Supply Corporation's 2025 water quality report went out with a June 1, 2026 letter from its board, Roger Little, Terry Bruce, Brad Wood and Patty Rattan, from the corporation's office at 410 FM 1389 South. The report says Combine Water Supply provides purchased water from the City of Seagoville, that Seagoville provides surface water from Dallas Water Utilities, and that Dallas uses a river, the Elm Fork of the Trinity, and six lakes, Ray Hubbard, Tawakoni and Fork on one side and Ray Roberts, Lewisville and Grapevine on the other. It lists no well, and no treatment of its own. Dallas's December 2023 memorandum explains that split: Hubbard, Tawakoni and Fork are treated at East Side in Sunnyvale, while the Elm Fork and Bachman plants work on what the Elm Fork carries from Ray Roberts, Lewisville and Grapevine. The report also carries Dallas's note that it has monitored for cryptosporidium since 1993 and never found it in treated water, and that the TCEQ's source water assessment applies to Dallas's sources. EPA's SDWIS record for PWS TX0570039 lists one active source, a connection labeled surface water from Dallas through Seagoville, and counts 1,196 service connections serving 3,588 people.

Three systems handle the water before a Combine tap, and none of them softens it, so Dallas's figure is the figure. The 2023 memorandum puts Dallas's system at 120 to 155 mg/L as calcium carbonate; call it 7 to 9 grains per gallon, and on the USGS scale, hard being 121 to 180 mg/L, that is hard water from end to end. Hardness, by the USGS definition, is dissolved calcium and magnesium, and Seagoville's report, the middle link in the chain, describes the treatment sequence it relies on without a softening step in it. Combine's own results cover nitrate at 0.502 ppm on January 6, 2025, nitrate-nitrite at the same value, nitrite and a dibromochloromethane reading from November 2025, lead and copper, and disinfection by-products, but no hardness, calcium, magnesium, sodium or alkalinity. With no corporation-level figure in the report, this page does not print one for Combine. The report's own disinfectant table, on pages 6 and 7, shows chlorine residual in Combine's lines averaging 2.07 ppm in 2025 across a narrow 1.95 to 2.15 range; page 4 adds that the lead service line inventory filed with the TCEQ on March 4, 2025 lists no known lead lines.

The report does show that the water is the same across the system, which straddles the Dallas and Kaufman county line. It samples disinfection by-products at two points, 160 Beasley Road and 545 FM 1389, and the two read almost alike: total trihalomethanes 15 and 16 ppb, haloacetic acids 7 and 8 ppb. If the by-products match at two ends of a rural system, the minerals, which do not change in the pipe at all, match as well. The lead result, 1.85 ppb at the 90th percentile for 2021 to 2023 with one site over the action level, is a plumbing matter at that one address, not a property of the lake water. Between the Seagoville meter and those sample points sit the corporation's own works: a pump station at 1725 Combine Road with two 800 gallon per minute pumps and ground tanks of 0.465 and 0.070 million gallons, plus a 0.300 million gallon elevated tank at the FM 1389 office, about 835,000 gallons in all. For a Combine softener the sizing figure is 9 grains per gallon, the top of the Dallas range, and the free water test gives the exact number at your own tap.

HOW A SOFTENER WORKS

Ion exchange, salt and regeneration.

One tank of resin, one tank of salt, and a valve that runs the cycle.

01
Ion exchange

Resin beads hold sodium ions. Calcium and magnesium swap onto the beads as water passes, and the water leaves at close to zero grains.

02
Salt and regeneration

When the beads fill up, brine from the salt tank rinses the hardness to the drain and reloads the sodium, metered by the gallons you use.

03
What it removes, and what it does not

Calcium, magnesium and a little dissolved iron. Not chlorine, chloramine, PFAS, lead or taste: that is a filter’s job, so see whole house water filtration for Combine, and a reverse osmosis tap or bottled water delivery for drinking water.

04
The salt-free alternative

A salt-free water conditioner turns hardness into crystals that stay in the water instead of on heaters and pipes: no salt, no drain, less scale, no relief for soap and skin.

HARDNESS QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

The hard water FAQ for Combine.

Is Combine’s water hard?

Combine's water is Dallas water bought through Seagoville, and Dallas's 2023 memorandum puts the Dallas system at 120 to 155 mg/L as calcium carbonate, about 7 to 9 grains per gallon, which is hard. Combine Water Supply Corporation's 2025 report prints no hardness figure we could read, so the free water test gives the number at your tap.

Is hard water safe to drink?

Yes. Hardness is calcium and magnesium, minerals with no federal drinking-water limit. It is a plumbing, appliance, soap and skin problem, not a health one.

Does a softener make my water salty?

No. The salt goes down the drain at regeneration; the water carries a little sodium in proportion to the hardness removed, which a reverse osmosis tap removes again.

THE SOURCE MATTERS

Where the number comes from.

Each figure is read from the document linked beside it, in its own units and period. A missing result stays missing; a range stays a range.
