HOW HARD IS LANTANA’S WATER?
Full Lantana water report ↗Whole house water filtration in Lantana ↗Bottled water delivery in Lantana ↗Lantana.
No hardness figure on file for Lantana yet.
Lantana's two fresh water supply districts are wholesale customers of Upper Trinity Regional Water District, taking treated lake water from Lewisville and Chapman lakes, and their report prints no hardness figure.
COMMON SIGNS OF HARD WATER
What each grain per gallon looks like at home.
With no figure for Lantana, the signs are the measure. Three or more of these, and the free water test will put a number on it.
Cloudy glassware and white spots the dishwasher cannot rinse off: the minerals that dry out of every gallon.
The white crust is limescale. It narrows spray holes and seizes aerators and valves.
Calcium and magnesium react with soap before it foams: more soap, and scum on tubs and shower doors.
The same soap curd settles on skin and hair and does not rinse away.
Minerals bind to fabric and detergent. Towels come out stiff, whites go grey, colors fade sooner.
Scale coats heating elements and clogs small valves, so appliances work harder and fail sooner.
LANTANA’S WATER, BY HARDNESS
Upper Trinity lake water alone, hardness explained in the report but never measured
Lantana's water arrives through one gate. The federal facility record for Denton County Fresh Water Supply District 7 (TX0610228) lists a single purchased source, surface water from Upper Trinity's regional treatment plant, a pump station at 869 Copper Canyon Road in Argyle with two 2.0 million gallon ground tanks and four 3,000 gallon-a-minute pumps, plus a 0.6 million gallon elevated tank at 950 Justin Road. The districts' 2025 report, issued jointly for Districts 6 and 7, describes the source as Upper Trinity water from Lake Lewisville and Lake Chapman, and the district's results are sampled at four addresses in the community: Kirby Drive, Cholla Boulevard, Christopher Street and Blanco Drive. The wholesaler's 70 million gallon a day Thomas E. Taylor plant in Lewisville, now growing to 85, handles the Lewisville and Ray Roberts water, and Jim Chapman Lake water piped in from Delta and Hopkins counties is split between Taylor and the Tom Harpool plant. The district's lines also serve as an emergency interconnect for Cross Timbers WSC next door on FM 407.
The report talks about hardness without measuring it. A section headed hard versus soft water explains that hardness is mostly calcium and magnesium, that it builds scale in pipes, appliances and fixtures, that softer water lets soap lather and helps water heaters and washing machines last, and that hardness is a quality matter rather than a safety one, with some households choosing a softener. What it does not do is print a number: the tables cover arsenic, atrazine, barium, bromate, chloramines at 2.72 ppm, fluoride at 0.26 ppm with a note that Upper Trinity adds none, haloacetic acids, nitrate, trihalomethanes, turbidity, lead, copper and a few PFAS compounds, and no line for hardness, for calcium or for magnesium. The wholesaler's 2025 report is no help either; it prints no hardness. For Lewisville and Ray Roberts water treated at Dallas's plants, Dallas's answer is 120 to 155 mg/L, moderately hard to hard by the USGS scale, in the neighborhood of 7 to 9 grains per gallon; the number is Dallas's, and this page prints none for Lantana.
With a single supplier and no wells, Lantana's water is the same across the community on any given day. What moves it is the lake, which gathers calcium and magnesium as it fills and shifts with rain and drought, and the district's note that every line was laid after 2000 with no lead or galvanized pipe means the mains add nothing of their own. The report's explainer tells you what to expect from hard water, white scale and dull laundry, and leaves the figure to you. The free water test measures a Lantana tap in grains and ppm, and the right softener is sized to the top of a lake-water year rather than to a spring average, so it keeps the water heater clean in August.

HOW A SOFTENER WORKS
Ion exchange, salt and regeneration.
One tank of resin, one tank of salt, and a valve that runs the cycle.
Resin beads hold sodium ions. Calcium and magnesium swap onto the beads as water passes, and the water leaves at close to zero grains.
When the beads fill up, brine from the salt tank rinses the hardness to the drain and reloads the sodium, metered by the gallons you use.
Calcium, magnesium and a little dissolved iron. Not chlorine, chloramine, PFAS, lead or taste: that is a filter’s job, so see whole house water filtration for Lantana, and a reverse osmosis tap or bottled water delivery for drinking water.
A salt-free water conditioner turns hardness into crystals that stay in the water instead of on heaters and pipes: no salt, no drain, less scale, no relief for soap and skin.
HARDNESS QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
The hard water FAQ for Lantana.
Is Lantana’s water hard?
The district's 2025 report explains hard versus soft water but prints no hardness figure for Lantana, and Upper Trinity, its only supplier, prints none for its treated Lewisville and Chapman lake water. Dallas puts the same lake water at 120 to 155 mg/L at its own plants, moderately hard to hard by the USGS scale. The free water test gives Lantana's number at your tap.
Is hard water safe to drink?
Yes. Hardness is calcium and magnesium, minerals with no federal drinking-water limit. It is a plumbing, appliance, soap and skin problem, not a health one.
Does a softener make my water salty?
No. The salt goes down the drain at regeneration; the water carries a little sodium in proportion to the hardness removed, which a reverse osmosis tap removes again.
THE SOURCE MATTERS
Where the number comes from.
Each figure is read from the document linked beside it, in its own units and period. A missing result stays missing; a range stays a range.
