Pantego.
No hardness figure on file for Pantego yet.

Pantego pumps its own water from six wells in the Trinity and Paluxy formations, with an emergency tie to Arlington's lake water, and its report prints no hardness figure.

COMMON SIGNS OF HARD WATER

What each grain per gallon looks like at home.

With no figure for Pantego, the signs are the measure. Three or more of these, and the free water test will put a number on it.

01
Spots on glasses and dishes

Cloudy glassware and white spots the dishwasher cannot rinse off: the minerals that dry out of every gallon.

02
Scale on faucets and showerheads

The white crust is limescale. It narrows spray holes and seizes aerators and valves.

03
Soap that will not lather

Calcium and magnesium react with soap before it foams: more soap, and scum on tubs and shower doors.

04
Dry skin and hair

The same soap curd settles on skin and hair and does not rinse away.

05
Stiff laundry

Minerals bind to fabric and detergent. Towels come out stiff, whites go grey, colors fade sooner.

06
Water heater and appliance scale

Scale coats heating elements and clogs small valves, so appliances work harder and fail sooner.

PANTEGO’S WATER, BY HARDNESS

Six town wells in the Trinity and Paluxy sands, with an Arlington tie for emergencies

Pantego is a well town inside a lake-water region. Its 2025 report classes the system as groundwater and lists six wells at four sites, three screened in the Trinity aquifer and three in the Paluxy; the state's facility list adds the plumbing behind them, a 125-gallon-a-minute well pump at the Nora Drive plant, 400-gallon-a-minute booster pumps at Garner Boulevard, a pump station on Highway 303 with 1,200-gallon-a-minute pumps and ground tanks of 0.75 and 0.25 million gallons, and an elevated tank of 0.3 million gallons. It also shows one connection to a neighbor, marked as surface water from the City of Arlington and listed as an emergency source. That tie matters because Arlington's water is a different thing entirely: treated Tarrant Regional lake water. The Prairielands district's plan for the counties south of here describes the formations under Pantego's wells. The Paluxy is the top of the Trinity Group, up to 400 feet of fine-to-coarse sand interbedded with clay and shale, and the Twin Mountains at the base yields the most water of any Trinity unit in this part of the state but, the plan says, water of generally lower quality than the Paluxy. The same plan notes an 800-foot drop in water levels under the Dallas-Fort Worth region and a move by many suppliers to lakes after the mid-1970s. Pantego did not move.

Pantego's report prints no hardness figure and no secondary constituents table, so the town's number is simply not published. At the outcrop, says the Texas Water Development Board, Trinity water is fresh and very hard; as the aquifer dives, total dissolved solids rise past 1,000 milligrams per liter and can reach 5,000, and Tarrant County wells sit well down-dip of the outcrop. The nearest published well chemistry is Kennedale's, a few miles southeast, whose four wells, screened in the Twin Mountains, Travis Peak and Paluxy, showed calcium between 1.49 and 19.1 ppm while total dissolved solids ran 414 to 950, alkalinity 202 to 438 and sodium as high as 142 ppm in 2025: a water with little calcium, and therefore little calcium hardness, carrying a heavy dissolved load of something else. That is Kennedale's water, and Pantego's Paluxy wells and Trinity wells may each read differently; the Prairielands plan itself says the two formations give different water. When the Arlington tie is open the picture flips again, to Arlington's own 2025 figure, 94 ppm on average and never above 110, moderately hard lake water.

At a Pantego tap, then, the water is whichever wells are running into whichever tank that day, three in one formation and three in another, and the report does not say how they are rotated or blended, so two houses on different pressure legs can carry different water. Hardness leaves the same marks whatever its source, spotting and scale, and it is mineral content rather than contamination; a deep-well water low in calcium leaves fewer of them but can still leave a residue from its other dissolved solids. We will not assign Pantego a figure from a neighbor's wells. A free water test at the kitchen sink gives Pantego's number for your house, and that is what the softener is sized to.

HOW A SOFTENER WORKS

Ion exchange, salt and regeneration.

One tank of resin, one tank of salt, and a valve that runs the cycle.

01
Ion exchange

Resin beads hold sodium ions. Calcium and magnesium swap onto the beads as water passes, and the water leaves at close to zero grains.

02
Salt and regeneration

When the beads fill up, brine from the salt tank rinses the hardness to the drain and reloads the sodium, metered by the gallons you use.

03
What it removes, and what it does not

Calcium, magnesium and a little dissolved iron. Not chlorine, chloramine, PFAS, lead or taste: that is a filter’s job, so see whole house water filtration for Pantego, and a reverse osmosis tap or bottled water delivery for drinking water.

04
The salt-free alternative

A salt-free water conditioner turns hardness into crystals that stay in the water instead of on heaters and pipes: no salt, no drain, less scale, no relief for soap and skin.

HARDNESS QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

The hard water FAQ for Pantego.

Is Pantego’s water hard?

We do not have a figure for Pantego. The town's 2025 report prints no hardness result and no secondary constituents; the water comes from six town wells, three in the Trinity and three in the Paluxy. Deep Trinity water nearby, at Kennedale, shows little calcium but a high dissolved load; what Pantego's own wells deliver is what the free water test measures.

Is hard water safe to drink?

Yes. Hardness is calcium and magnesium, minerals with no federal drinking-water limit. It is a plumbing, appliance, soap and skin problem, not a health one.

Does a softener make my water salty?

No. The salt goes down the drain at regeneration; the water carries a little sodium in proportion to the hardness removed, which a reverse osmosis tap removes again.

THE SOURCE MATTERS

Where the number comes from.

Each figure is read from the document linked beside it, in its own units and period. A missing result stays missing; a range stays a range.
