Sanger.
No hardness figure on file for Sanger yet.

Sanger pumps six city wells in the Trinity Aquifer and buys Lewisville Lake water treated by the Upper Trinity Regional Water District, and neither column of its 2025 report carries a hardness figure.

COMMON SIGNS OF HARD WATER

What each grain per gallon looks like at home.

With no figure for Sanger, the signs are the measure. Three or more of these, and the free water test will put a number on it.

01
Spots on glasses and dishes

Cloudy glassware and white spots the dishwasher cannot rinse off: the minerals that dry out of every gallon.

02
Scale on faucets and showerheads

The white crust is limescale. It narrows spray holes and seizes aerators and valves.

03
Soap that will not lather

Calcium and magnesium react with soap before it foams: more soap, and scum on tubs and shower doors.

04
Dry skin and hair

The same soap curd settles on skin and hair and does not rinse away.

05
Stiff laundry

Minerals bind to fabric and detergent. Towels come out stiff, whites go grey, colors fade sooner.

06
Water heater and appliance scale

Scale coats heating elements and clogs small valves, so appliances work harder and fail sooner.

SANGER’S WATER, BY HARDNESS

Six named Trinity wells and lake water from the end of the Upper Trinity line, no figure

Sanger's 2025 water quality report lists its sources by name. Six active wells, every one tagged Trinity, carry street names rather than numbers alone: two at Cherry and Second, and one each on Acker, McReynolds Road, Lois Road and Keith Drive. The seventh line is surface water from the Upper Trinity Regional Water District, received through a connection the state logs under the district's own system number. Sanger is also where one of the district's trunk lines ends: the district describes a transmission line running from Castle Hills, at the Lewisville end, north to Sanger, one of the trunk lines that carry the district's water to over 20 member and customer utilities. The lake water itself comes from Lewisville Lake, which holds back the Elm Fork of the Trinity River behind a Corps of Engineers dam finished in August 1955 and gathers runoff from about 1,660 square miles upstream.

The report then splits its results into two columns, one for the city's own system and one for Upper Trinity's water, which is unusual and useful; it shows that the fluoride, barium, nitrate, bromate and atrazine detections ride in with the lake water while the city column is mostly non-detects, disinfectant and disinfection by-products. Neither column includes hardness, calcium, magnesium or sodium, and Upper Trinity's 2025 report has none either. So the chemistry has to be described rather than quoted. Lewisville Lake water is reservoir water, and reservoir water in this region carries dissolved calcium and magnesium gathered from the land upstream; Fort Worth, the nearest utility that prints a range, reported 108 to 150 ppm for its reservoir water in 2025, moderately hard to hard. Deep Trinity well water in Denton County is a different thing. The Texas Water Development Board calls the aquifer's water fresh but very hard only where it crops out at the surface, with dissolved solids rising as the beds dip, and the deep wells of Mustang Special Utility District, across the county, print hardness of 4.773 ppm alongside 222 ppm of sodium.

Where a Sanger house lands between those two depends on the day's balance between the six wells and the lake water arriving from the south. The wells are scattered through town, so a street near one of them may draw a higher share of groundwater than a street at the far end of the system, and summer demand tends to pull more purchased water into the mix. That is why we will not print a town figure: the city has not, and any single number would misdescribe many taps for much of the year. Pick a softener for the highest reading, not the typical one, or ask for the free water test and take Sanger's number from your own faucet, in grains per gallon, on the day it matters.

HOW A SOFTENER WORKS

Ion exchange, salt and regeneration.

One tank of resin, one tank of salt, and a valve that runs the cycle.

01
Ion exchange

Resin beads hold sodium ions. Calcium and magnesium swap onto the beads as water passes, and the water leaves at close to zero grains.

02
Salt and regeneration

When the beads fill up, brine from the salt tank rinses the hardness to the drain and reloads the sodium, metered by the gallons you use.

03
What it removes, and what it does not

Calcium, magnesium and a little dissolved iron. Not chlorine, chloramine, PFAS, lead or taste: that is a filter’s job, so see whole house water filtration for Sanger, and a reverse osmosis tap or bottled water delivery for drinking water.

04
The salt-free alternative

A salt-free water conditioner turns hardness into crystals that stay in the water instead of on heaters and pipes: no salt, no drain, less scale, no relief for soap and skin.

HARDNESS QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

The hard water FAQ for Sanger.

Is Sanger’s water hard?

Sanger's 2025 report prints no hardness figure. The city mixes six Trinity Aquifer wells, whose deep water in this county often carries more sodium than calcium, with Lewisville Lake water from Upper Trinity, the moderately hard to hard kind that scales heaters. The blend changes by street and season, so the free water test gives the honest number for a Sanger address.

Is hard water safe to drink?

Yes. Hardness is calcium and magnesium, minerals with no federal drinking-water limit. It is a plumbing, appliance, soap and skin problem, not a health one.

Does a softener make my water salty?

No. The salt goes down the drain at regeneration; the water carries a little sodium in proportion to the hardness removed, which a reverse osmosis tap removes again.

THE SOURCE MATTERS

Where the number comes from.

Each figure is read from the document linked beside it, in its own units and period. A missing result stays missing; a range stays a range.
