Seagoville.
No hardness figure on file for Seagoville yet.

Seagoville buys treated water from Dallas and stores it in the city tower and reservoir; Dallas's 2023 memorandum gives a range for its system, but Seagoville's report prints no hardness figure.

COMMON SIGNS OF HARD WATER

What each grain per gallon looks like at home.

With no figure for Seagoville, the signs are the measure. Three or more of these, and the free water test will put a number on it.

01
Spots on glasses and dishes

Cloudy glassware and white spots the dishwasher cannot rinse off: the minerals that dry out of every gallon.

02
Scale on faucets and showerheads

The white crust is limescale. It narrows spray holes and seizes aerators and valves.

03
Soap that will not lather

Calcium and magnesium react with soap before it foams: more soap, and scum on tubs and shower doors.

04
Dry skin and hair

The same soap curd settles on skin and hair and does not rinse away.

05
Stiff laundry

Minerals bind to fabric and detergent. Towels come out stiff, whites go grey, colors fade sooner.

06
Water heater and appliance scale

Scale coats heating elements and clogs small valves, so appliances work harder and fail sooner.

SEAGOVILLE’S WATER, BY HARDNESS

Dallas water held in Seagoville's tower and reservoir, moderately hard to hard

Seagoville's Water Billing page states the arrangement plainly: the city contracts with the City of Dallas, which provides the purification, and the water bought from Dallas is stored in the Seagoville water tower and reservoir. The city's 2025 water quality report names Bachman Lake among its sources, and Dallas's December 2023 memorandum identifies Bachman as the site of one of Dallas's three plants, one of the two that receive Ray Roberts, Lewisville and Grapevine water down the Elm Fork of the Trinity; the third, East Side in Sunnyvale, treats lakes Hubbard, Tawakoni and Fork. Seagoville's report also walks through a treatment sequence: aeration to oxidize iron, polyaluminum chloride and soda ash to gather particles into floc that settles out, chlorine, filtration through fine coal and silicate sand, chlorine again, and finally soda ash to set the finished water's pH and alkalinity, fluoride, and a corrosion inhibitor, before the water is pumped to underground reservoirs and water towers. The report adds that the source water assessment that applies is the TCEQ's assessment of Dallas's sources, not a Seagoville one.

None of those steps is softening, and the report's results tables, with a City of Seagoville column beside a Dallas column, have no hardness line. So the figure to use is Dallas's. The 2023 memorandum puts Dallas's system at 120 to 155 mg/L as calcium carbonate, in grains roughly 7 to 9 per gallon, and the USGS scale, which calls 121 to 180 mg/L hard, puts all but the very bottom of that range in the hard class. The soda ash step the report describes adjusts alkalinity, which is a different measure from hardness: alkalinity is the water's capacity to neutralize acid, while hardness is its calcium and magnesium content. Seagoville's report does not print an alkalinity result either. With no city-level hardness figure in the report, this page gives none for Seagoville.

At a Seagoville tap, the tower matters more than the lake. Water from Dallas fills the city's reservoir and tower, and from there gravity and the city's pumps set the pressure on each street; a house below a full tower sees more pressure than one near its level. The supply described in the 2025 report is purchased surface water only; it names no well, so there is no second water to blend in and the mineral content at every address is the Dallas content. The Seagoville column of the results table, covering lead and copper, disinfection by-products and chlorine, is the only part of the report that is the city's own measurement; everything upstream of the tower is Dallas's. When sizing a softener, use 9 grains per gallon, the top of the Dallas range, and let the free water test pin down the exact figure at your own tap.

HOW A SOFTENER WORKS

Ion exchange, salt and regeneration.

One tank of resin, one tank of salt, and a valve that runs the cycle.

01
Ion exchange

Resin beads hold sodium ions. Calcium and magnesium swap onto the beads as water passes, and the water leaves at close to zero grains.

02
Salt and regeneration

When the beads fill up, brine from the salt tank rinses the hardness to the drain and reloads the sodium, metered by the gallons you use.

03
What it removes, and what it does not

Calcium, magnesium and a little dissolved iron. Not chlorine, chloramine, PFAS, lead or taste: that is a filter’s job, so see whole house water filtration for Seagoville, and a reverse osmosis tap or bottled water delivery for drinking water.

04
The salt-free alternative

A salt-free water conditioner turns hardness into crystals that stay in the water instead of on heaters and pipes: no salt, no drain, less scale, no relief for soap and skin.

HARDNESS QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

The hard water FAQ for Seagoville.

Is Seagoville’s water hard?

Seagoville's water is Dallas water, and Dallas's 2023 memorandum puts its system at 120 to 155 mg/L as calcium carbonate, about 7 to 9 grains per gallon, moderately hard at the bottom of the range and hard above 120 on the USGS scale. Seagoville's 2025 report describes treatment steps but prints no hardness figure, so the free water test gives your tap's number.

Is hard water safe to drink?

Yes. Hardness is calcium and magnesium, minerals with no federal drinking-water limit. It is a plumbing, appliance, soap and skin problem, not a health one.

Does a softener make my water salty?

No. The salt goes down the drain at regeneration; the water carries a little sodium in proportion to the hardness removed, which a reverse osmosis tap removes again.

THE SOURCE MATTERS

Where the number comes from.

Each figure is read from the document linked beside it, in its own units and period. A missing result stays missing; a range stays a range.
