No hardness figure on file for Westover Hills yet.

COMMON SIGNS OF HARD WATER
What each grain per gallon looks like at home.
With no figure for Westover Hills, the signs are the measure. Three or more of these, and the free water test will put a number on it.
Cloudy glassware and white spots the dishwasher cannot rinse off: the minerals that dry out of every gallon.
The white crust is limescale. It narrows spray holes and seizes aerators and valves.
Calcium and magnesium react with soap before it foams: more soap, and scum on tubs and shower doors.
The same soap curd settles on skin and hair and does not rinse away.
Minerals bind to fabric and detergent. Towels come out stiff, whites go grey, colors fade sooner.
Scale coats heating elements and clogs small valves, so appliances work harder and fail sooner.
WESTOVER HILLS’ WATER, BY HARDNESS
A town of 277 homes on Fort Worth water, one well beside it, no published hardness figure
Westover Hills is a town of 277 homes and roughly 700 people, by its own count, and its water department describes the system in a sentence: the town operates a purchased water system, with the City of Fort Worth as the seller. The department's own testing covers bacteria, chlorine residuals and chlorine byproducts, which is to say it checks the water Fort Worth delivers rather than making any. The 2025 report adds one wrinkle, a single groundwater source beside the town hall on Merrymount, listed without a source-water assessment, and it lists the Fort Worth supply three times over, each entry naming the same four reservoirs, three on the West Fork chain north and west of the city and one far to the east. Everything else about the water, from the lakes to the plant to the chemistry, is decided in Fort Worth.
The route that water takes is a long one. Lake Worth, the nearest of the reservoirs, has fed Fort Worth's Holly plants since a 6.5-mile pipeline reached them in 1916; Eagle Mountain and Bridgeport lie upstream on the same West Fork; and since 2008 the Tarrant Regional Water District's Eagle Mountain Connection has been able to pump water from the Cedar Creek and Richland-Chambers reservoirs in East Texas into Eagle Mountain Lake, so even the West Fork side of Fort Worth's supply can carry water from the far side of Dallas. Which of Fort Worth's plants sends water up the hill to Westover is an operating decision Fort Worth does not publish. What the town's report prints is its own residual and byproducts, chloramine of 1.1 to 4.1 ppm and samples from Valley Ridge and Westover Drive, and nothing under secondary constituents: no hardness for the well, none for the purchased water, and so no figure for Westover Hills on this page. The one attributed number available is the supplier's own: Fort Worth's 2025 report gives total hardness across its system as 108 to 150 ppm, which the USGS scale places between moderately hard and hard, a figure for all of Fort Worth across a year and not a Westover Hills reading.
The well is what keeps this from being a simple story. The Texas Water Development Board describes Trinity groundwater as very hard in its shallow outcrop zone, with dissolved solids, sulfate and chloride increasing as wells go deeper, and the town's report does not say how deep the Merrymount well is or how much of the supply it provides. A house near it on a day it is pumping may draw a different water than a house at the far end of the system on Fort Worth water alone, and the two can sit at different points on the hardness scale. In a town of 277 homes, one well can be a noticeable share. We size a softener to the harder water a home is likely to see, and a free water test at your own faucet is how we learn which water that is in Westover Hills.

HOW A SOFTENER WORKS
Ion exchange, salt and regeneration.
One tank of resin, one tank of salt, and a valve that runs the cycle.
Resin beads hold sodium ions. Calcium and magnesium swap onto the beads as water passes, and the water leaves at close to zero grains.
When the beads fill up, brine from the salt tank rinses the hardness to the drain and reloads the sodium, metered by the gallons you use.
Calcium, magnesium and a little dissolved iron. Not chlorine, chloramine, PFAS, lead or taste: that is a filter’s job, so see whole house water filtration for Westover Hills, and a reverse osmosis tap or bottled water delivery for drinking water.
A salt-free water conditioner turns hardness into crystals that stay in the water instead of on heaters and pipes: no salt, no drain, less scale, no relief for soap and skin.
HARDNESS QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
The hard water FAQ for Westover Hills.
Is Westover Hills’ water hard?
Nothing published gives a number for Westover Hills. The town buys Fort Worth water and runs one well, and its 2025 report prints no hardness for either. Fort Worth's own system figure is 108 to 150 ppm, which is moderately hard to hard; the state calls shallow Trinity groundwater very hard. A free water test at your faucet settles it.
Is hard water safe to drink?
Yes. Hardness is calcium and magnesium, minerals with no federal drinking-water limit. It is a plumbing, appliance, soap and skin problem, not a health one.
Does a softener make my water salty?
No. The salt goes down the drain at regeneration; the water carries a little sodium in proportion to the hardness removed, which a reverse osmosis tap removes again.
